DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND LEADER TRANSFORMATION) – JOB ADVERT

The International Leadership University (ILU) is a Christian University. Our mission is to educate and train Christ-like visionary leaders, who spearhead holistic transformation in Africa and the world. International Leadership University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs and Leader Transformation). The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic leadership and oversight for the Academic Division in alignment with mission and vision of International Leadership University and will be based at the ILU Kilimani and Kitengela Seat.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Leader Transformation shall include:

  1. Providing leadership and managing the Academic Division of the University, in consultation w i t h the Vice Chancellor (VC).
  2. Supervising the senior leaders in the Academic Division who include the Deans of Schools, the University Registrar [ which includes the Examinations office], the University Librarian, the Heads of Departments (HoDs) that serve all Schools such as Leader Transformation (encompassing Practical Ministry and Co-mentoring groups), Open, Distance and Electronic Learning (ODEL), and their faculty.
  3. Overseeing the review and preparation of academic programs and putting in place quality control measures and standards in the Academic Division in conformity with the stipulated expectation of the Commisision for the University Education in Kenya, in consultation with other stakeholders, working with the Director of Quality Assurance.
  4. Ensuring that academic programs reflect the vision, mission, and the core values of the University, integrating reviews and upgrading of curricula to meet the changing needs for purposes of accreditation.
  5. Serving as the Secretary of the University Senate.
  6. Serving as a member of the Management Board.
  7. Convening and chairing Committees of the Senate.
  8. Preparing reports of Academic Division for the University Council of the University.
  9. Conducting research and writing in areas of personal expertise.
  10. Participating in (or chair) these meetings, Academic Committee meetings, Faculty orientation and development workshops.
  11. Deputizing the VC, as his principal deputy, as needed.
  12. Teaching and supervising students in their research, when possible, to qualify for ranking and promotion.
  13. Promoting a Christian and corporate culture upholding ILU Core Values and Statement of Faith.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from a recognized Institution.
  • Strong understanding of library automation systems and digital resource management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support research and academic excellence.
  • Active Christian faith and commitment to the vision and mission of a Christian university.

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

• Ph.D. degree from a recognized university. (All foreign qualifications should be equated by CUE).
• Be at least of Senior Lecturer rank. Higher rank will be an added advantage.
• At least (5-10) years’ experience in university teaching, research, and academic administration.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, accreditation, quality assurance, and academic policy.
• Demonstrated training and competence in senior academic leadership.
• Strong record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or books.
• Thorough knowledge of the Kenyan higher education legal and regulatory framework.
• Excellent communication, technical, and interpersonal skills.
• Membership of any relevant professional bodies.
• High integrity and ethical standards.
• Committed Christian who shows evidence of alignment to our statement of faith.
